Boatbuilder Kit Contains

  • One Sheet of 4' x 8' x 1/4" Plywood
  • Two 2" x 4" x 8' Pieces of Lumber
  • One Pound of fasteners = 1" fine thread drywall screws
  • One Roll of duct tape - 2" x 60 Yards

2009 BOATBUILDING RULES

1. Each team must have at least one adult (over 18yrs) participant.
2. Vessel Construction will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m., promptly.
3. Only the materials provided in the kit can be used in the construction of the vessel.
4. No templates or patterns.
5. No caulking or adhesives allowed.
6. Builders must supply own handheld tools, sawhorses & extension cords (power will be provided). No table saws, planers or drill presses allowed. (HAND TOOLS ONLY)
7. No 3-Way Adapters and/or power strips are allowed. You can use only one plug at a time.
8. Builders must provide own heavy duty drop cloth (plastic or canvas) to catch sawdust, paint & screws. Area must be clean when finished.
9. No Surfboards. Rowers must sit in or on vessel and it must be rowed with paddles or oars.
10. All rowers must attend a mandatory meeting to be held after construction and prior to racing to discuss race rules.
11. Decorations are allowed but cannot be larger than 10” x 12” & cannot be used as sails. Builders must supply paint/decorations.
12. Boat names must be appropriate for children’s hospital fundraiser.
13. Boat assigned number (provided in kit) must be displayed on both the vessel and the rower.
14. NO COOLERS ALLOWED; water is provided and other beverages/food will be available for purchase.
15. Pop up canopies that require no staking are allowed for shade.
16. Does your team include minors? If so, a permission form signed by the parent or guardian of each minor is required. You can download a permission form from www.ducktaperegatta.com or you can request one by phone or e-mail.

ADULT RACE RULES

1. Opening race ceremonies will begin at 2:00 p.m.
2. Rowers must provide and wear own PFD/life jacket during the race.
3. All boats must make a starboard (right hand) turn around race marker.
4. Race will be held in heats. Winners in heat 1 will race other winners in Heat 2.
Those winners will race in the third and final heat to determine first, second and third places.
5. Only rower and one helper allowed at start line.
6. Teams may change rowers each heat, but rower must display boat number.
