A project of The King's Daughters All proceeds benefit

The Duck Tape Regatta (DTR) is an unique fund-raiser for the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD.) The 5th annual was held on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the Willoughby Harbor AVMG Marina on 1525 Bayville Street in Norfolk, Virginia. Members of The King's Daughters' Union of Hands Circle coordinated the event. It has been a very successful event that has raised nearly $100,000 for CHKD since its first year!!

DTR participants are given four hours to create a "boat" out of kit that contains a sheet of plywood, two 2x4s, a roll of duct tape, and a pound of screws. The boats are then manned and launched into a race for seaworthiness and speed. The adrenaline and cheering of the crowd rivals any major NASCAR, Derby or track race. It is pure excitement!

Surprisingly enough, the most amazing thing about the Duck Tape Regatta is not the construction of these boats, but the fact that every cent collected through sign-up fees, food, entertainment, and generous donations is given to the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters to ensure the best health care for the children of Hampton Roads, Virginia.

For all those who have attended the DTR we thank you and for those who are making their plans for this year, the fun is yet to come! This year's Regatta will be the best yet.
